Designing book covers has always been an interesting area of design for me: how much to tell the reader without revealing too much content. Designing books loaded with so much symbolism presented a unique challenge.
Each of these four books of the Bible present the same story in very unique ways. Having an understanding of the books and how they function in the narrative of the Bible was essential, and my Bible classes at Harding prepared me well.
In the final product, I also laid out the body text and hand-bound the books. Being able to hold a product that I saw go from sketchbook to physical object was very rewarding.
I am very proud of the outcome of the project. I learned that there is a lot of thought and process that goes into a seemingly simple design. Just because a design is simple, does not make it any less effective, and a more visually complex design is not necessarily better or more difficult.
