Visually Speaking: The Age of Jazz

In the late 19th and early 20th century, America encountered a cultural revolution called Jazz, characterized by avant-garde individuals who reacted to and prodded along existent American culture. This gallery is an exploration into the history of this cultural movement, looking specifically at how the visual and auditory arts interact. Visual artists have long been fascinated with sound—more specifically, modern artists with the sounds of Jazz. I composed charts that give impressions of the artists’ works and created paintings as expressions of Jazz musicians. Join me in appreciating this incredible history which continues speaking to all of humanity.
